Family: I am married to my best friend, Julie and we are blessed to have three beautiful daughters (Laura, Lane and Amy). We also are proud owners of a dog, rabbit and two turtles.
How I got here: The Thomson family moved to Kyle, Texas several years ago from Chicago, Illinois. After visiting several area churches we came across SWFF and never left. From the first service we attended, we felt welcomed and immediately became involved in serving various ministries.
Favorite Sports Team: Toronto Maple Leafs. Being born in Canada, it is a national requirement to learn how to ice skate and play hockey.
Favorite Toy Growing Up: Anything to do with Evel Knievel. In case you don’t know, Evel Knievel was an American motorcycle daredevil know for motorcycle jumps over pits of rattlesnakes, pools of sharks and rivers. I have fond memories of playing with the Scramble Van and Stunt Cycle.
What I Listen To: Anything from ABBA to ZZTop. My iPod is full of Classic Rock, Jazz, Rap and Christian artists. Some of my all-time favorite artists include: Elvis, Petra, The Corrs, Katie Melua and TobyMac.
Favorite TV Show: Of all-time, The A-Team! Rumor has it that a full-length feature film is currently in production. Nowadays I find myself enjoying cooking shows (Alton Brown), discovery channel and history channel.
Favorite Movies: In alphabetical order – Armageddon, Commando, Demolition Man, Fifth Element and Monty Python’s Search for the Holy Grail.
Favorite Book: The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan. Recently, the books I’ve been reading revolve around leadership, teaching and children/youth ministry.
Hobbies and Interests: I enjoy running, segway riding, ski jumping and skateboarding – on the Wii Fit. Honestly, I enjoying playing computer games, cooking/baking, taking road trips and doing touristy stuff like going to zoos and amusement parks.
Favorite Bible Verse: John 3:16. This verse is the all-in-one message of God’s love and plan of salvation for everyone. Concise in message, deep in meaning.
Favorite Bible Story: There are so many awesome Bible stories filled with heroes and legacy-makers, but one always gives me goose bumps when I read or hear it – the story of the prodigal son found in Luke 15:11-32. What an amazing story of human nature and God’s love. The image of the father looking for his son to return and accepting him with open arms is awesome.
Education: For most of my K-12 education, I was home-schooled. The family joke was that my mom was the teacher and my dad was the principal – I never thought it was very funny actually. After a few years of trying to figure out a career path, I decided on a life filled with computers. I graduated from Herzing University with an associate’s degree in computer-aided design. This took me on an exciting road trip through the school of hard knocks that included network administration and client support roles.
What I Do At Church: I am the Family Life director and KidZone coordinator. As Family Life director, I focus on developing, coordinating and administering an awesomely awesome group of volunteers involved in ministry programs for children (Nursery – 5th grade) and youth (6th -12th grade) fulfilling our mission to ensure a safe, fun, learning environment in which children and youth can grow in their relationship with God, their parents and others. KidZone is where K-5th graders learn values and virtues for everyday life including: trusting God no matter what, making wise choices and treating others the way I want to be treated. My wife and I also lead a small group that meets in our home.
